Deadpool & Wolverine‘s Official Pizzas Raise Some Meaty Questions

Marvel teamed up with DiGiorno on four limited edition offerings tied to the July 26 release.

Warning: this article is going to make you hungry. There’s simply no way around it. Even as we humorously break down the good and bad of Deadpool & Wolverine teaming up with DiGiorno on a series of limited-edition pizzas, talking about pizza at all is going to make you crave a slice.

But what slice to eat? Well, there are four options, all of which should be in stores now tied to the massively anticipated Marvel Studios multiverse movie, opening July 26. Here’s the breakdown with official descriptions:

The Wade Special: A sweet and salty combo not just for mercs, made with pineapple and black olives to pay homage to Wade Wilson’s pizza in the first movie.

Gimme Chimi: A chimichanga-inspired pizza that is a fiesta for your tastebuds and topped with spicy cumin sauce, beef topping, jalapeno, and cheddar & mozzarella cheeses.

Spicy Wolvie Pie: Crafted with Wolverine and other meat lovers in mind, this pie is stacked with pepperoni, chorizo and bacon.

Maximum Pep: Made with maximum flavor and zero regrets – just like Deadpool’s decisions – Maximum Pep is piled high with sliced and diced pepperoni.

So now that we’re all on the same page, let’s get to the aforementioned meaty questions. Questions like, do these themes even make sense? Are any of the flavors appealing? And, by the end, do you even care because you’ve been reading about pizza for 500 words and now just want some?

Let’s start with the Wade Special. This one clearly makes sense. It’s from the first movie and is an appropriately weird, gross combination. We don’t necessarily want it, but we can get behind it. The Gimmie Chimi also sounds suitably on brand. Ask anyone who knows Deadpool what food they associate with him and they’ll ask you to pass the chimichangas. It’s a natural fit.

From there though, things get a little off-center. There’s the Spicy Wolvie Pie which claims Wolverine is a meat lover and then simply throws together a few different meats. First of all, is Wolverine a meat lover? Where did that come from? Is it just because he stabs things? Either way, one thing Wolverine definitely is, is Canadian—so for the topping choice to be regular bacon and not its northern counterpart seems like a bit of a miss theme-wise. Taste-wise though, we’d imagine it’s the right call.

Then there’s the Maximum Pep, which from what we can tell, is just a pepperoni pizza. Is it diced up, presumably because Deadpool has swords? Yes. Does that change what it tastes like? No, it does not.

But at this point, you’re hungry, right? We told you so. And frankly, while the first two pizzas are much more on theme with the characters, I’d rather eat one of the two that aren’t. So it’s a win-win situation for pizza lovers and Marvel fans, either way.
