National says NZ’s continued record immigration is mainly NZers returning from overseas. That is just not true. Over the past 12 months, Statistics NZ says the growth has been driven by non-New Zealand citizens – a net 73,600. As for New Zealanders, there was a net loss of 1,300.
“Over the past three years, annual net migration has been consistently hitting record levels due to an increasing number of non-New Zealand citizen arrivals,” says Statistics NZ population statistics senior manager Peter Dolan. “Annual net migration has been steadily increasing since late 2012 when we had more departures than arrivals.”
Immigration has hit another record high in the year to June, despite more Kiwis leaving than arriving. A net 72,300 migrants made their home in New Zealand in the year to June. It’s up 3000 on the previous 12 months.
NZ’s continued record immigration rates are changing the cultural, employment, education and traffic situation in NZ, particularly in northern NZ. It is not helping economics. Per person, NZ’s GDP is low compared with other Western countries.
National focuses on total GDP, which relates to population size, and means nothing. Indonesia and Colombia have higher GDPs than NZ! GDP per person determines how wealthy you are – and National is hardly increasing it. It just brings in more people.
National is lying to you, the NZ public, to support mass immigration so businesses have cheaper labour. NZ First and Labour have proposed tightening immigration to skilled migrants we need, if they are elected this September.
NZ First will lower immigration to 10,000 people per year. Labour will lower immigration to 50,000 people per year; this is still almost the size of Rotorua each year.
Get out and vote.
Note 1: The Green Party’s immigration policy is wishy washy and weak.
Note 2: See the NZ Government immigration statistics showing that immigration is foreigners, not NZers returning – here.
